The Walking Dead
Before I gave my life to Jesus, I was dead in my sins like “the walking dead.” Controlled by the lusts of the flesh, I was not spiritually alive – not knowing the truth and without a real identity. I was alive in the flesh, but dead in the spirit.
Ephesians 2: 1 – 3
“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the age of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among them we all also once lived in the lusts of the flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and the mind, and we were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.”
The walking dead in the flesh (spiritually alive in Christ)
I was dead in my sins, without hope, no identity, and living according to the spirit of disobedience before Jesus Christ. By faith, I chose to be baptized into Christ and have been baptized into His death (Romans 6: 3 – 4). This scripture in Colossians 3: 3 is mind-blowing. I am dead in the flesh. My life now is hidden with Christ in God.
I am the walking dead now in the flesh but spiritually alive through faith in Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3: 3
“For you are dead, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”
Sin versus grace
Sin leads to death in the flesh and the spirit. Jesus died for my sins so that grace might reign in my life. Grace through righteousness leads to eternal life through Jesus Christ (Romans 5: 21). My testimony of faith is due to the grace of God in my life.
Romans 5: 21
“..so that just as sin reigned in death, grace might reign through righteousness unto eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
