Salvation is a gift

Salvation is a gift. John chapter three tells a story of a man by the name of Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. Nicodemus acknowledged that Jesus came from God, however, he did not understand what it means to be born again, so he asked Jesus to explain how he could be born a second time.

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3: 3. Read the entire chapter of John 3: 1 – 21.

We are born as flesh and blood into a world governed by sin and fear. As a result of sin, God made a way for us to overcome sin through Jesus, who is the blood sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, there is no other way to still the inner battle raging on the inside of every person. You are spiritually dead, like “the walking dead” if you are not born-again. Also, the only way to have peace within is to allow the Prince of Peace (Jesus Christ) into your heart.

Call out to God for salvation

I remember at the age of 18 in Cape Town, South Africa, I was on the verge of giving up. I was staying at a women’s hostel at the time, meanwhile thinking of ways to end my life. I cannot tell you why I felt that way, but it seemed like the only solution to the inner struggle I could not live with any longer.

I wept and cried out to God and asked Him for help. I did not expect an answer so soon, but the following day a group of young people came to share the gospel at the hostel. As they spoke, it was as if God answered the questions I asked Him the night before. For this reason, I believe with all my heart that He did listen to me, did answer me, and now I am born-again.

The sinners prayer

Salvation is a gift and only available while we are alive on earth. Most importantly, it is not a matter of works and available to anyone who desires it. By faith, we call on the name of Jesus for salvation from sin. So, if you do not know Jesus Christ and said the prayer of salvation, please state this prayer aloud:

Dear Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. I admit that I am a sinner and ask you to forgive me of all my sins. I believe that Jesus died for my sins and shed His blood for me on the cross. Romans 10: 9 says that if I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in my heart, that God raised him from the dead, that I am saved. I repent of my sins, confess that Jesus is Lord of my life, and accept Jesus as my Savior. I ask that your Holy Spirit guide and counsel me into all truth. Amen.”

After saying this prayer, believe that you are forgiven. The Holy Spirit, whom Jesus promised, now lives inside you to counsel and guide you into all truth. “Now, what do I do?” you may ask. Start reading and studying the Bible to renew your mind.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”  Romans 12: 2.
