Fear or faith – which will you choose?

Fear or faith

Fear or faith?

Fear or faith both demand you believe in something you cannot see. Will you believe the spirit of fear or have faith in God?

The spirit of fear

2 Timothy 1: 7 "For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind."

We live in a world ruled by fear. There is no denying that people live in fear now more than before. Furthermore, anxiety, stress, and depression are causing more deaths even among our young people. Mass shootings happen more often and we are still reeling from the effects of a global pandemic. Economically, the world is a disaster and a war in Ukraine has displaced millions and is affecting the whole world. Fear may rule the world, but does it take charge of the world within you?

The scripture in 2 Timothy 1 verse 7 says that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and self-control. Those who live with fear punish themselves with anxiousness because fear has to do with punishment. God wants us to live by faith in His guidance.

Faith is your shield by which you can fight against the spirit of fear and unbelief. The Apostle Paul writes to the Galatians and says, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I now live by faith in the Son of God.” Jesus also tells us that in the world we will have trouble but that we need not worry or fear as He has overcome the world.

Jesus did not tell us that we would live comfortably without difficulties on earth. He promised He would never leave or forsake us in times of trouble. Faith is the substance we hope for and the evidence of that which is unseen. Jesus and His word are our source of strength in any situation.
